TIMAC AGRO innovates with struvite, a recycled fertiliser.

In a context where sustainability and environmental concerns are increasingly important, TIMAC AGRO stands out for its innovative initiatives. Recognised for our fertiliser solutions, we now offer a more environmentally friendly raw material: struvite. This recycled mineral, derived from wastewater, is a promising alternative for sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture.

What is struvite ?

Struvite is a magnesium ammonium phosphate naturally present in certain aquatic environments. Derived from the recycling of wastewater and sewage sludge, it is a renewable and sustainable resource. By recovering these nutrients, struvite helps to reduce waste while preserving a key resource: phosphorus. In its raw state, struvite has a low solubility in the soil solution, releasing its elements slowly and gradually. Thanks to its manufacturing process, TIMAC AGRO optimises struvite for effective absorption by the plant from germination and at early stages of development, giving it a new agronomic value.

The environmental benefits of struvite

Struvite allows nutrients from wastewater to be recycled, thereby reducing waste and preserving an essential resource: phosphorus. Its rapid release ensures effective crop nutrition. However, its production involves several reprocessing steps, resulting in a higher carbon footprint than other fertilisers.

Timac agro and innovation in fertilisers

At TIMAC AGRO, we have incorporated struvite into a specific fertiliser solution, developed to meet specific regulatory constraints, particularly in the Netherlands and Belgium. This technology ensures rapid release of phosphorus, offering performance similar to that of conventional phosphate fertilisers, while taking a more sustainable approach.

An approach tailored to market needs

Our struvite-enriched solution is a sustainable response to the limited use of mineral phosphorus, guaranteeing an effective supply of nutrients while complying with current regulations. The solution we developed demonstrated the benefits of sourcing recycled materials locally. Thanks to our expertise in fertilisation, we are developing technologies aimed at optimising the effectiveness of inputs while minimising losses and environmental impact.

With the introduction of struvite, we are continuing our commitment to sustainable agriculture. TIMAC AGRO is part of an ongoing process aimed at developing innovative solutions that are increasingly tailored to farmers’ needs.
