Eduardo is a TIMAC AGRO representative in the Northern part of Uruguay – a region he’s discovered during his study years and that he has not left since. An agriculture enthusiast, he’s been through all Artigas in his career to support farmers in developing a sustainable way of farming with TIMAC AGRO solutions. Discover his story:

Can you introduce yourself?
I am an agricultural engineer by training, and I have been working at TIMAC AGRO Uruguay since 2016. I work as a representative in the northern part of the country, in the Artigas area, near the Argentinian and Brazilian borders.

How did you come to the region?
I first came here during my studies. I met the woman who is now my “señora”. And I haven’t left since 2001.

Could you present your region and its characteristics?
It’s a magnificent region, a fantastic place to live and work, and above all, it’s an area rich in agricultural opportunities. The main crop is rice: all the cultivation is done in irrigated areas, thanks to water sourced from dams, rivers, and streams. The region is also known for its cattle and sheep breeding: the herds graze on natural pastures and on sown meadows.

How do you see the future of your area?
Agriculture is diversifying and new crops are gradually being introduced: sorghum, maize, and soya. These last two crops also require a lot of irrigation, without which they will fail. Rice in irrigated land has been and remains the driving force behind the development of the region: its cultivation has fostered the development of infrastructure (roads, electrical power, machinery). It has also enabled the introduction of pastures in crop rotations.

What is TIMAC AGRO’s role in this development?
We have a decisive role to play: we provide innovative solutions created on the basis of farmers’ concrete needs while harnessing the best scientific knowledge. The proper use of our products contributes to improving the profitability of production in a sustainable way. This is where we as representatives have an essential role to play: we can monitor the farmers’ crop and animal production, and provide them with the right advice, perfectly adapted to our customers.

What do you like about your job?
My independence and the freedom with which I can organise my work! I am convinced of the benefit of my work: these solutions and technologies are sustainable answers, good for the environment.

What would be your advice to a new representative?
To go forward with confidence: our solutions work!
Every meeting with a farmer is a new experience, every new experience builds confidence. Be realistic, take the time to examine the situation and, if in doubt, ask more experienced colleagues for advice. Become the technical reference farmers will look for when they need advice!
